If I had to live on a deserted island for the rest of my life and could only eat one food, it would hands down be the avocado. I probably eat on average two avocados per day. No joke. Besides that fact they are just plain delicious, they are, in my unprofessional (though well-researched) opinion, probably the best food you can put into your body. That's why I make avocados the biggest staple in my diet.
So here's the deal with avocados...
They are jam packed with those superhero omega 3 fatty acids that everybody talks about, but that the current-day Western diet seems to lack. Omega 3 fatty acids can help our bodies fend off cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer's, arthritis and even depression. They do this by fighting the inflammation in our bodies that the omega 6 fatty acids in our diets tend to cause. We need a proper amount of omega 3's to fight the large amounts of omega 6's we tend to ingest. An omega 6-to-omega 3 ratio of about 4:1 is considered ideal. And the lower the ratio, the better your chances of reducing the risk of the chronic diseases mentioned. However, the omega 6-to-omega 3 ratio in the average Western diet is about 20:1. Avocados, however, have a 1:1 ratio of 6's to 3's. So do the math and eat up!
Avocados are low in saturated fat, but high in monounsaturated fat, which is the good kind. So they will fill you up without fattening you up.
They also contain fiber and protein and a gazillion essential nutrients (like Vitamins A, B, C, E, and K, copper, iron, phosporous, magnesium, and potassium). Fun fact - one avocado contains 2-3 times as much potassium as one banana does.
And they're rich in antioxidants which will help you naturally fight the aging process. Is there anything the avocado can't do!?!?
Finally, the most obvious reason I eat avocados? Nothing goes better with a margarita than guacamole!

Happy avocado eating!
